Boarders and lodgers

The Residential Tenancies Act 1995 does not apply to agreements where a person boards or lodges with another person except in cases where a person is boarding or lodging in a rooming house.

Rooming houses are residential premises in which rooms are available for residential occupation (with or without the provision of meals or other facilities or services) and accommodation is available for at least three persons on a commercial basis.

If you are a boarder or lodger who does not live in a rooming house, there is currently no legislation in South Australia setting out your rights and responsibilities. If you have a dispute with your landlord that you cannot sort out, you can:
