Trolley jacks

Compliance with consumer product safety standards is mandatory. All suppliers, including manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers of trolley jacks must ensure their products comply with the mandatory requirements. Consumers also have a responsibility to purchase safe products and to use them in a safe manner.

These Safety Standards on trolley jacks, complement the Commonwealth's Consumer Product Safety Standards.


Safety Standard

The mandatory standard for trolley jacks is based on the Australian Standard/New Zealand AS/NZS 2615:1995, Hydraulic Trolley Jacks, published by Standards Australia.

The mandatory standard applies to all trolley jacks with a capacity up to and including 2.5 tonnes.

Requirements

To comply with the standard, trolley jacks must meet the requirements in relation to their design and construction, performance, marking for the jack and any packaging; and instructions for maintenance, safe usage and assembly.

Trolley Jack Checklist

Jack Marking
The following information must be permanently and legibly marked on the jack, in English:



USE ONLY ON HARD LEVEL SURFACES. DO NOT GET UNDER A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY SUPPORTED BY A TROLLEY JACK - USE SUPPORT STANDS



Packaging Marking
The packaging must be clearly marked with the following information:



Lubrication
If the jack requires lubrication before use, a label or swing tag in a contrasting colour must be attached to the handle bearing the words:

THIS TROLLEY JACK REQUIRES LUBRICATING PRIOR TO USE

Maintenance
Instructions for any necessary maintenance including lubrication requirements and details for servicing the hydraulic system must be provided.

Safe Usage
Safe usage instructions must be provided with the jack and include the following information.



Assembly
Does the trolley jack require assembly? If so, the assembly instructions must include a parts list and exploded diagrams of the jack.
