Suction tongue studs

Banned imitation tongue stud jewelleryImitation tongue stud jewellery that attaches by suction has been banned in South Australia. The tongue stud is a hazard because the item is not securely held in place by suction, and poses a risk that consumers could inhale or ingest the small piece.

The studs have been sold in Adelaide in a variety of colours and designs. Once an item has been banned, selling it is an offence under the Trade Standards Act 1979 and carries a maximum penalty of $10,000.
