Flashing dummies

Novelty flashing dummies have been banned from sale in South Australia. Banned on 6 May 2004.Novelty flashing dummies have been banned from sale in South Australia. These dummies commonly have flashing LED lights and a looped neck cord. Some models have poorly moulded rubber teats, which can cause irritation to users.

One particular model has a clear plastic teat, which incorporates a whistle. The dummy is easily dismantled, exposing small parts that may cause a choking hazard.

Whilst the flashing dummies are aimed primarily at teenagers for use at nightclubs, overseas experience has shown that infants may be given or mistake them for a pacifier. Younger children are not able to distinguish between novelty toys and real dummies.

The Office of Consumer and Business Affairs regularly monitors products that are available for sale in South Australia. If you are concerned about the quality of a product please contact us.
