What information do we collect?
We collect personal information to allow us to perform the wide variety of functions and activities for which we are responsible. These are normally specified in or related to the legislation that we administer. Whenever personal information is collected, the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs aims to ensure that you know why we collect it. Personal information is not recorded when you access OCBA's website home page or browse the site, unless you send us an email, complete an online form, or subscribe to our online newsletter.
You should be aware that OCBA collects a record of your visit to our website and logs the following information for statistical purposes - the user's IP address, the date and time of the visit to the site, the pages accessed and documents downloaded, the previous site visited and the type of browser used. No attempt will be made to identify users or their browsing activities except, in the unlikely event of an investigation, where a law enforcement agency may exercise a warrant to inspect our service provider's logs. This information is analysed at the end of each month to determine the site's usage statistics.
How do we use your personal information?
The use or disclosure of your personal information will usually be linked to the purpose for which it was collected. For example, the purpose could be the registration of a business name or the register of an association. The purpose could also be to resolve a consumer complaint, answer a query about a residential tenancy bond or process a transaction for an incorporated association. There are many other examples.
