Annual returns
A licence lasts until it is suspended, cancelled or surrendered. A licence will cease if the person holding the licence dies or, in the case of a company holding the registration, is dissolved.
In order to maintain continuity of licence, you will receive an annual return to lodge the licence which will be posted to your Address for Service (ie, your postal address) approximately 2 months before the expiry date printed on your certificate. The annual return is a document that lists certain information that you must provide to the Commissioner along with your licence fee. It is the responsibility of the licensee to lodge this before the expiry date to avoid a penalty fee.
Your first annual return, will fall due for lodgement eleven (11) months after the licence is granted, and then yearly after that. View the current fees.
Changes to details
You must notify the Commissioner in writing (within 14 days) of changes to your personal or business details (eg address, directorship, business name, partnership etc) and resignation or dismissal of your nominated manager.
Licence certificate
As a licensed dealer, you will receive a licence certificate for each registered premises. You must display your licence and registration of premises details, in a prominent position.
You must also display your name under which you carry on business as a dealer (eg, business name) and the words 'Licensed Second-hand Vehicle Dealer' (abbreviated to 'LVD') immediately followed by your licence number (and that of each partner if relevant), prominently and permanently at the main public entrance to each of your registered premises.
Surrendering your licence
It is important when you surrender your licence that this is done in writing and either sent in or lodged over the counter. For further information contact us.
