Obtaining a Licence/Registration
If you have never held a licence/registration before, or if you have allowed your licence/registration to lapse, you will need to apply to the Commissioner for a new licence/registration.You can apply for a new licence/registration by answering a series of questions verbally, either over the telephone or in person at our Grenfell Street Office. We will complete the application form for you using our computer-based system and an application form with your answers will be produced for you to check and sign.
You will need to lodge with your application the specified fees and supporting documents. Our office will then assess your application to determine if you have met all the necessary criteria. Before you apply please read the following information: entitlement to be licensed/registered.
Processing Time
When lodging your application you will be required to provide the correct fees, and lodge all the relevant information requested on the application form. Please note if you fail to provide all the information requested our office will not be able to accept your application and it will be returned to you for completion.Upon lodgement of your application an officer will be able to advise you of the expected processing time.
Maintaining a Licence/Registration
To maintain the currency of your licence/registration, you must pay a licence/registration fee (each year if you hold a contractors licence and every three years if you hold a workers registration) and provide the Commissioner with certain information. If you hold both a contractor's licence and worker's registration, then payment of the annual fee for the contractor's licence will also cover your worker's registration. If you fail to do this, a penalty may be imposed and the licence and/or registration cancelled. In the case of partnerships, all partners are required to pay the relevant fees.
Refused Applications
The Commissioner may refuse your application if you do not meet the relevant criteria. If your licence or registration is refused you can appeal to the District Court within one month from the date of refusal.
