OCBA - Business name

You need to register a business name if you are carrying on business under a name other than your own real name (without addition). If you advertise using a business name it is taken that you are carrying on business under that name and therefore you must register that name.

Under the Building Work Contractors Act 1995, you must not carry on business as a builder worker under a licence except in the name that appears in your licence or in a business name that has been registered under the Business Names Act 1996. The Commissioner must also be advised in writing of your business name before you commence business.
