OCBA - Vehicles securities register

For private sales, it is important to discover if the vehicle has any outstanding payments owed to a finance company. The Vehicles Securities Register (telephone 131 084) holds this information. There may be a small charge for detailed information. You must provide both the vehicle's registration, engine number and vehicle identification number (VIN) to obtain this information. To gain legal protection, you should obtain a certificate of the Register entry (for a small fee) to prevent repossession by any former credit provider. The Register also gives information on stolen vehicles but no liability can be accepted regarding its accuracy. For example, a vehicle may be stolen and sold before its theft has been reported to the police.
