Progress payments

Your domestic building work contract will outline the terms of your progress payments. Generally, however, contracts imply that progress payments must be made as various stages of construction work are completed. These payments are generally expressed as a percentage of the total contract price.

The law requires that your building work contractor make a written demand for a progress payment. Pay only when you receive that written demand. The builder should only ask for a progress payment when the work is substantially complete and ready for the next stage.
