Thursday 11 August 2011
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) has lifted its suspension of Tiger Airways Australia domestic flights, effective Wednesday 10 August 2011.
Tiger Airways is now planning to recommence operations, including ticket sales, advertising and resuming flights .The ACCC and State fair trading regulators will continue to work with Tiger Airways as it undertakes this planning.
For more information about CASA's decision to lift the suspension and the conditions imposed on the airline, visit the CASA website.
Tiger's suspension, from 2 July 2011, was due to CASA's view that permitting the airline to fly posed a serious and imminent risk to air safety. The airline's remedies for affected customers remain in place and consumers should contact Tiger Airways website for more information.
Domestic flights booked to depart before 11 August 2011
Tiger will provide an automatic full refund (including ticket cost, taxes and any surcharges) to all consumers for flights between 2 July 2011 and 10 August 2011. Tiger will aim to refund within 20 business days from cancellation.
Affected consumers do not need to lodge a claim with Tiger but may still register for a refund via the airline's call centre or website.
Domestic flights from 11 August to 31 August 2011
Passengers with domestic Tiger flights booked for the remainder of August can choose to cancel their booking without penalty, until seven days after the resumption of services.
Passengers can cancel their flight and request a refund or credit note via Tiger's online customer service portal or the airline's call centre.
If you choose to cancel, contact Tiger as soon as possible.
Consumers who cancel a flight in August can choose either a:
- full refund of all money paid to Tiger or
- credit note to the value of the cancelled booking.
The ACCC and consumer protection authorities will continue to monitor the situation and this advice may change if there are any changes.
