1. Choose a Name
We suggest you think of three business names in case your first preference is not available. If the name you have chosen is already registered, you may have to consider your next preference.2. Search the Register of Names
You may check the register of names for your own reference on the National Names Index.It is your responsibility to ensure that your proposed business name does not infringe any Trade Mark. Check with IP Australia.
The final determination on the availability and suitability of the name you wish to register will be made by this Office once we have received your application. Remember: Do not incur any expense eg. printing of stationery until you receive your certificate of registration.

5. Lodgement and payment
In PersonThe completed application and correct fee can be lodged at the front counter on Level 3, Chesser House, 91-97 Grenfell St, Adelaide SA 5000. Our business hours are Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm. For documents to be processed by 5pm they must be lodged with the cashier by 4.45pm.
The Officer attending will assess your application and determine the suitability of the business name. If everything complies, you will be issued with a Certificate (allow 15-20 minutes).
By Mail
The completed application form and correct fee can be lodged by mail addressed to Corporate Affairs and Compliance Branch, GPO Box 1407, Adelaide SA 5001.
If lodged by post, your application will be assessed and, if everything complies, you will receive a Certificate within ten working days.
By Facsimile (fax)
The completed application form and correct fee (via credit card) can be lodged by facsimile, addressed to Corporate Affairs and Compliance Branch on fax number (08) 8204 9771.
If lodged by fax, your application will be assessed and, if everything complies, you will receive a Certificate within ten working days.
6. After Registration
RenewalYour business name is required to be renewed every three (3) years from the date of registration. A renewal notice is issued one month prior to the expiry date with an appropriate fee for renewal notice.

Change in Particulars
Any change in particulars of a registered business name must be lodged on the appropriate form within 28 days of the date of the change. (Failure to comply will result in a late fee being applicable.)
